Parliamentary campaigns In 2010 ffinlo worked
closely with Ian Austin MP during the closing days of the campaign.
Through dogged perseverance and exceptional focus Ian retained the
Dudley North seat with a narrow majority. In 2005 ffinlo was the
parliamentary candidate for
North East Cambridgeshire where he co-ordinated a
dynamic campaign despite minimal
resources. He designed all election materials and created around four
hundred press mentions in the final year of the campaign. The result
(15,280 votes) was well above the national swing. |

I Love Manx campaign -
Isle of Man Government, Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and
Forestry This highly successful
positive campaign was
delivered on behalf of Isle of Man Government, Department of
Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF). It changed the
way people view the role of agriculture on the Isle of Man. A coalition of more than
a hundred organisations was
gathered to fully engage community support, to reconnect farmers with
other countryside users, and to build a committed body of consumers
willing to support Manx produce. Stakeholders included
three government departments, the media,
food processing hubs, supermarkets, schools, environmental, wildlife
and footpaths groups, and the Church of England. Campaign delivery
included leaflets, websites, events, and
co-ordinating stakeholder meetings. Manx Radio's Manx Food
Show, which ran for two series, was also created to
support the campaign. |

Public Rights of Way - Langness We worked closely with
community campaigners to construct a detailed and professional campaign
to reopen footpaths on the Isle of Man's southernmost peninsular. The
paths were closed when Jeremy Clarkson bought the lighthouse as a
holiday cottage. 100% of paths identified
by PROWL have now been recognised as highways, meaning that
an additional 9km of coastal footpaths will be enshrined as public
rights
of way. Costain Communications
was instrumental in developing strategies and techniques. We drafted
documents, articles and produced
the
PROWL website. Isle of Man Government
was determined not to act on behalf of
local people, but were forced to hold a public inquiry due which
exposed the enormous weight of public support for action. Despite overt hostility
from the Island's media (blinded by celebrity throughout), we ensured a
degree of balance was maintained in all reporting. |

News consulting - Isle of
Man
Government, Department
of
Local
Government and the Environment (DoLGE) This project was to help
DoLGE develop their
communications strategy and better understand the workings of the news
media. Over six months Costain
Communications delivered a complete news
consultancy service for DoLGE (identifying stories, writing news
releases, creating features to support government work, and liasing
with journalists) while training civil servants to deliver their own
news agendas through agreed mechanisms. |

Website design and
campaign consulting -
Isle of Man Friends of the Earth We've worked alongside
Isle of Man Friends of the Earth
for a number of years and regularly advised on campaigns. Work has included
designing their straight-forward website, which we
also currently maintain under guidance from the co-ordinator. The site was developed

No More
Landmines (previously Adopt-A-Minefield) Prior to his freelance
work, ffinlo was the first
campaign co-ordinator for Adopt-A-Minefield UK, establishing the
campaign in Britain from scratch. He was responsible for
the campaigns and media operation, but also
instrumental in developing international organisational and mine action
strategy. Presswork ranged from celebrating the success of grassroots
fundraisers in local papers to managing global media junkets featuring
AAM's highly active patrons Heather and Paul McCartney. ffinlo
travelled widely to mine affected countries,
interviewing and photographing survivors and de-miners for further
campaigning work. He developed national
and local campaigns, managed events,
maintained brand awareness, and shared information through feature and
education related media. He pioneered No More Landmines Day, which ran
in schools, in association with the National Union of Teachers. The campaign office was
small, efficient and target driven, and within
four years, by 2005, AAM was the largest non-governmental funder of
mine action in the world. |
